A First Visit — Twenty Years in the Making

Fr Martin Graham, Spiritual Director of the Legion in the Diocese of Down and Connor, opens the very first conversation — on the day the Church remembers Our Lady’s own first visit.

On the chosen date

The 31st of May is the feast the Church gives to the Visitation: Our Lady setting out in haste across the hill country to her cousin Elizabeth, carrying within her the unseen Christ. It is the first apostolic act of the Christian age — and the very pattern of the Legion. We could think of no truer day to begin.

On the first guest

For twenty years Fr Martin Graham has served as Spiritual Director of the Legion of Mary in Down and Connor, alongside his ministry as Administrator of St Peter’s Cathedral, Belfast. This summer he will be transferred to a new pastoral charge and the office will pass to a successor. Episode 01 is both an opening and a farewell — a record of two decades of formation, in his own voice, before the season ends.

“Exsurgens autem Maria… abiit in montana cum festinatione.”

A Voice for Mary’s Legion

For over a century, the Legion of Mary has carried the light of Christ to every corner of the world — quietly, humbly, faithfully. Now, for the first time, that story will be told in English.

The Immaculata Comitium — Diocese of Down and Connor — is preparing to launch the first-ever English-language Legion of Mary podcast. While the Legion spans 170 countries and counts over 10 million members, no dedicated English-language video apostolate has ever been produced for it.

That changes now.

0 English-language Legion of Mary podcasts in existence today

Legio Mariae Podcast will change that. This is not just a local project by a small comitium in Belfast — it is a gift to the universal Church, and a first step towards giving the English-speaking world its rightful access to one of the greatest lay apostolates in the history of Catholicism.

Why Does No English Podcast Exist Yet?

The Legion of Mary is one of the most extraordinary organisations in the history of the Church. Founded in Dublin in 1921 by the Servant of God Frank Duff, it has grown into the largest apostolic organisation of the faithful in the Catholic Church — yet remains largely unknown to the general Catholic public.

In an age when podcasts have become the primary medium for Catholic formation and evangelisation — with shows like Pints with Aquinas, The Word on Fire Show, and Formed reaching millions — the Legion has no English-language voice of its own.

This is a historic opportunity. The Legio Mariae Podcast will be the first. Our Lady has provided — on the feast of Saint Louis de Montfort, his intercession obtained the grace of full funding. Episode 01 premieres on Sunday, 31 May 2026, the Feast of the Visitation.

“Our Lady is our mother, and we never lose confidence in our mother.”
Frank Duff — Founder of the Legion of Mary

From One Conversation to Many

Episode 01 has been provided for — Deo gratias. We look now, with the same trust, to what comes next.

As more legionaries from across the English-speaking world come forward to share their testimony, the studio must grow with them. We are gathering the next round of equipment so that each conversation can be recorded with the dignity owed to Our Lady’s apostolate.

Studio Lighting

Broadcast-quality lighting fit for the cathedral spaces in which we record — so that the image carries the weight of the conversation.

Additional Seating

Dignified chairs for guest legionaries, so that a whole praesidium can sit at the table together — not one voice at a time.
